Originating from the innovative work of Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, this fitness method focuses on controlled movements, precise alignment, and mindful breathing. Pilates called his method "Contrology." Exercises are performed on a mat and on specially designed equipment. The Pilates system includes exercises for every part of the body and applications for every kind of activity.

The Reformer is a versatile machine using springs for resistance, a carriage, straps and bars to tailor the routine to your needs. We teach the 9 Pilates Principles:

  • Breathing: Breath is integrated into every movement in order to focus our awareness on what we are doing, to improve the flow of oxygen through our bodies and to improve the capacity of our lungs.

  • Concentration: We will only have you complete as many repetitions as you can without losing your concentration/form. 

  • Control: Maintain proper form, alignment and effort during each exercise so that you are engaging your mind to stay in control of each movement. 

  • Centering: Develop a strong, stable and flexible center. 

  • Precision: Perform each exercise with optimum alignment, unconscious control, and just the right amount of effort. 

  • Balanced Muscle Development: With practice, you will understand, develop, and maintain correct alignment and form which leads to balanced muscle development. 

  • Rhythm/Flow: All movements in Pilates are done with a sense of rhythm and flow to create smooth, graceful and functional movements.
